AGONAMAN EXECUTIVE CLUB CONGRATULATES WILLIAM AMPONSAH ON HIS HEROIC EXPLOIT AT THE GREAT NORTH RUN, NEWCASTLE, ENGLAND ON SUNDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER, 2022.
The Agonaman Executive Club congratulates William Amponsah on his heroic exploits that continues to make the people of Agona and Ghana proud. From his days at Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS) to his recent participation in the just ended Birmingham Commonwealth Games, where he competed in the men’s 5000m race and placed 13th with a personal best time of 13:51.63 seconds, Amponsah is always making strides that honors Agonaman and Ghana.
William Amponsah is the current record holder of the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) games after breaking the previous records in 5000m and 10,000m respectively at the 2022 GUSA Games in Accra.
For the last couple of years, William Amponsah has been winning the Kwahu Easter Mountain Marathon, the Millennium Marathon, Accra Marathon and the Secondi-Takoradi Marathon.
As a proud son of Agona Swedru, William Amponsah represented Ghana at the Commonwealth Games as West Africa’s half marathon champion and the first after Robert Hackman to participate in the 5000m final in such prestigious games. It is on record that only three Ghanaians have represented Ghana at Commonwealth Games; Robert Hackman (1974), Juliana Sakat (2014) and William Amponsah (2022).
We share this milestone achievements of William Amponsah with his family, technical team and management for always making us proud at such global stages. We also pride ourselves with the fact that he is a proud son of the land and a shining example to the youth of Ghana.
His participation in the 41st Great North Run 2022 is once again historic since no Ghanaian has ever participated in the elite race since its inception on 28th June 1981. It is also for the fact that the 22 year old Amponsah competed with 60,000 runners who participated in the event and placed 8th with a time of 1:03:15 as his latest personal best.
We believe in the huge potential of Amponsah and also in his exceptional talent and we are optimistic that within the next couple of years, William will be a world champion and hold that position for many more years.
Congratulations to William Amponsah. Agonaman is proud of you and we are solidly behind you.
