United Nations Youth Association Ghana Africa Youth Month Press Statement

An estimated 75% of Africa’s 1.2 billion inhabitants are under the age of 35, with some 453 million Africans aged 15- 35. This goes without saying that the sustainable development outputs of Africa’s young and youthful population has a significant effect on the continent’s trajectory of experiences, expertise, expectations and excellence.

It is in respect of the need to change the existing narrative that the United Nations Youth Association-Ghana (UNYA-GH) joins itself with the African Union Commission and other stakeholders in Ghana to commemorate the Africa Youth Month in the month of November 2022 under the theme “Breaking The Barriers to Meaningful Youth Participation and Inclusion In Advocacy”. UNYA-GH hopes the month long stakeholders interactions will help mobilise commitments towards achievement of thematic objectives enshrined within the African Youth Charter adopted in 2006 which recorgnises the contributions of youth to development and admonishes national governments to create conducive platforms for economic, political, social, and cultural benefits of Africa’s youth.

The United Nations Youth Association- Ghana commesorate with the youth of Africa and particularly Ghana and will continue to actively advocate, mobilise, dialogue, and promote call to actions initiatives with key youth development stakeholders including: governments, development partners, private sector, youth groups, entrepreneurs, innovators, civil society on the continent and in the diaspora to challenge the barriers to meaningful youth inclusion, development, engagement and empowerment.

In fine, UNYA-GH will leverage the Africa Youth Month to call on the youth of Ghana to leverage global citizenship for sustainable development opportunities and innovatively resolve pertinent challenges locally and globally. Within the month of November 2022, UNYA-GH will also organise two virtual stakeholder engagements focused on education, engagements, entrepreneurship and employment as part of activities earmarked within the Africa Youth Month (AYM).

Long Live UNYA-GH !
Long Live Youth of Ghana !!
Long Live Youth of Africa !!!
