DEATH OF THE MURDER OF MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR THE MFANTSEMAN CONSTITUENCY IN THE CENTRAL REGION OF GHANA, HON. EKOW QUANSAH HAYFORD.

OCTOBER 9, 2020.

We are very sad to have been brought to notice the passing on of the Mfantseman Constituency Member of Parliament, Hon. Ekow Quansah Hayford being shot dead by unknown assailants. The sad incident was said to have happened on the Abeadze Dominase – Abeadze Duadzi – Mankessim Road on his return from one of his campaign endeavours on Friday (October 9, 2020.) dawn at exactly 1 am.

According to the eyewitness account that was given, the MP was identified in the act of the robbery and was then brought forth by one of the assailants, blaming the now deceased Member of Parliament in his capacity as a politician and a state law enactor and enforcer, for the country being “too hard to live in” as was supposed by the assailant. One then asked them to lie prostrate and asked the driver why he did not stop when asked to.

We would first want to issue our condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased member of Parliament. And we pray that the good Lord will strengthen them in these tough times.

Be it as it may, we once again would want the commend the Regional Police commander for taking action immediately to summon an investigation, but would also want to admonish and encourage them to do more. This comes in the wake of several issues that have already manifested in that stead in times past. This is a sad day for the nation at large and not just the faithful of the New Patriotic Party, of the people of the Mfantseman only.

We do believe that actions should be taken and followed through to the end, not only because of the deceased member of parliament but for all the people who have also in one way or the other fallen dead to the consequences of such actions.

We also want to plead with the Police service to engage with the general public and keep them up to speed as to what comes by at what stage of the investigation. The general public on the other hand should also give the Police the needed time and space to do their work as they should.

This is an issue of national security and for that matter an issue of interest to each Ghanaian. As such we would want to also plead with all political stakeholders not to in any way politicize this to gain political expediency.

Let’s also take caution of every action that we as people engage in especially in these crucial times so not as to ridicule the democracy that we have enjoyed to this day.

Long live Ghana!
Long live the United Nations Youth Association-Ghana!
Long live the United Nations! and may God bless us all.
Thank you.
