Assin Foso: NDC Parliamentary Candidate, Nurein Migyimah Shaibu Presents Relief Items To Victims After Downpour

The Parliamentary Candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Assin Central Constituency, Nurein Migyimah Shaibu on Wednesday March 20 donated some relief items to victims of last Monday’s downpour at Assin Foso Municipality.

A thunderstorm that accompanied the heavy rain ripped off the roofings of various houses and institutions in about six communities including Foso Bantama, Abesewa, Zongo, Mempeasem, rendering residents homeless with personal belongings destroyed.

According to Migyimah, some executive members of his party in the constituency called to inform him about the incident, and also a radio interview with the Municipal Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Samuel Kwaakye, calling on philanthropists to come to the rescue of those affected.

“Yes I’m out of the country but my executives called me to inform me about what has happened and the fact that NADMO is not in the position to make provisions immediately to resolve the issue at hand, so I felt as a stakeholder who has the interest of the people at heart, I needed to procure some relief items to support those affected,” he said in a telephone interview.

The relief items included 50 packets of roofing sheets, 10 boxes of nails and cash amount to support some individuals whose properties were destroyed.

Some schools that were not spared from the heavy rain like; Roman Catholic Basic School, Presbyterian Basic School, Obiri Yeboah Secondary School, also benefitted from these relief items.

He also presented some of the items to the Musama church and the Assin Foso chief’s palace.

Father Joseph Patrick Akonor, the manager of the Assin Foso Roman Catholic Basic School and Barima Kwaakye Ampim, Afutuakwa Juantuahene, expressed their profound gratitude to the NDC Parliamentary Candidate, Nurein Migyimah Shaibu for his kind gesture.
