AGONA EAST GOES ASPHALT
Prof Kwesi Yankah, the NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate of the Agona East Constituency, cut-sod for the construction of a 700m asphalt overlay at Swedru Senior High School on Tuesday 17th March, 2020.
The colorful ceremony took place at the school premises to begin the construction of the overlay over a period of three days.
A promise was made during the 61st Speech and Prize Giving Day ceremony in February last month to ensure the construction of such a project for which the school has made several appeals for.
Agona East Constituency is gradually seeing a facelift in physical infrastructural projects including roads construction, rural electrification, healthcare facilities and school projects among others.
Prof Kwesi Yankah is facilitating the construction of several educational projects in all four Senior High Schools in the Constituency. At Kwanyako SHS, works are ongoing for the construction of boys and girls dormitory blocks, assembly hall, head teachers bungalow, classroom blocks among others.
In Swedru SHS, similar projects are underway including the asphalt overlay.
Nsaba Presby SHS is also blessed with the construction of dormitories, classrooms and electronic libraries.
In an interview with the media, Prof Kwesi Yankah maintained that “access to education is a fundamental right. We shall therefore commit ourselves to the promotion of such projects to create an equitable opportunity for quality education for all”.
He believes that “schools in Agona East deserve better and a fair share of Government infrastructural projects for schools will enable them achieve their core mandates. I am therefore ensuring that all senior high schools in Agona East receive school buses and pick ups the Ministry of Education intends to supply to schools”. These buses, he admonished, “will go a long way to promote academic and extra curricular activities in schools”.
It is never a mistake that Swedru SHS is benefiting from this project. SWESCO, as it is affectionately called, is the first Ghana Education Trust School by Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah. It is the most populated SHS in the Agona area and remains the first choice of many candidates who graduate for secondary education.
The asphalt construction therefore adds up to the numerous ongoing projects in the school geared towards making SWESCO a model SHS in the area.
