A Journey of Self-Discovery: Aunty Essy’s Transition from Secular to Gospel Music

Auntie Essy, a gospel artiste, recently opened up about her musical journey, revealing a surprising twist. In a candid interview, she shared, “I knew within me that, I was a gospel artiste, but I decided to do secular music.”

Speaking to Dj Qwequ on the Weekend Groove Show live on Ahomka 99.5 FM, she disclosed that, when she planned and started to do music, she did a lot of research and got to know that doing gospel music at that time will be hard for her to be known in the music space and also hard to get management to push her career. This pushed her to do secular music so that she will be known in the music space and get people to support her.

‘When I wanted to do music, my main focus was to do Gospel music because that’s my calling and I really wanted to. I did realize that doing gospel music will be hard for me as an artiste because of getting assistance, getting management, and other stuff. I did due diligence investigations on that. I then decided to channel my energy into secular music and turn back to gospel music at the right time, and this is the time.

Adding that, almost all the presenters who listen to her flow on her songs do tell her to quit secular music and do gospel, but she had no choice at that time but to still decide to do secular music.

‘Mostly, when I do go for interviews, most presenters do tell me secular music isn’t my style, so I should stop and do gospel. I was aware of that’.
